Health and Safety Mentor
In order to be successful, organisations need to get the fundamental structure of the business right across all
of the industry performance indicators; including finance, production, quality, environmental factors and safety.
Health and safety requires persons at all levels within the organisation do things right, with the right
equipment and follow the right procedures. Therefore health and safety performance and business performance are
inextricably linked. By introducing effective health and safety management and promoting a positive safety
culture, benefits across the whole business will become apparent as improvements are made in the way things are
done.
The Health and Safety Mentoring service has been designed to allow organisations to self-develop their own
site-specific health and safety policies and procedures with regular mentoring from an experienced chartered
health and safety professional. The health and safety management system that will be developed by your mentor
will be inline with the health and Safety Executive guidance document 'Successful Health and Safety Management
– HSG65' and British Standard OHSAS 18001.
Over the course of the contracted period a regular visit plan will be devised by your appointed health and
safety consultant in conjunction with the specific health and safety requirements for your organisation. This
will be accompanied by all relevant documentation (although this will be kept appropriate to your needs and will
not become an additional burden as is often perceived with regards to the 'health and safety' topic), telephone
support and advice, audits/inspections etc.
A typical Health and Safety Mentoring service plan has been outlined below.
- Periodic visits over the course of the contracted period.
- Development of health and safety policies;
- Full inspection / audit of premises with detailed report;
- Assistance with the development of site specific risk assessments;
-
As determined from the clients needs as assessed at the initial visit, a diarised action plan
will be downloadable for the client outlining items that will need to be addressed with regards
to the development of a site specific health and safety management system;
- Fire risk assessment and emergency plan;
- Assistance with the investigation of serious incidents;
- 24 hr, 7 days a week, 365 days a year telephone advice services; and
-
Quarterly email news shot detailing any significant changes in legislation and/or industry best
practice.
-
In addition to the above the remaining sessions throughout the contracted period will be used to
cater to the individual client needs. For example; assessing the progress of the client,
addressing any issues that may have arisen, training and the provision of information for staff
at all levels within the organisation, chairing safety meeting etc;
