Health and Safety in Construction
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 came into force on the 6th April 2007, and place
duties on Principal and Sub-contractors, to effectively manage health and safety when on-site.
Our health and safety in construction consultants will help you to:
- Improve the health and safety arrangements within your organisation;
- Ensure that you have the right people for the right job at the right time to manage the risks on site; and
- Focus on effective planning and management of risk, so that you manage the risk and not the paperwork.
To achieve this, our health and safety in construction consultants can address the following:
Risk Assessments and Method Statements
A risk assessment is the overall process of identifying all the risks to and from an activity and assessing the
potential impact of each risk. In terms of construction this would involve our health and safety consultants
assessing the activities you undertake e.g. work at height, lifting building materials, use of plant and
equipment, and ensuring suitable and practical control measures are implemented that both reduce the risks to
your employees and others, and allow you to complete the job in hand with minimum disruption.
Method statements are a further extension of a risk assessment and are a step-by-step plan of how you intend to
complete a specified piece of work; whilst also considering the risks throughout all elements of the job. Method
statements were initially designed for high-risk activities that had to be completed in a periodic manner with
designated safety measures in place, however it has now become commonplace for sub-contractors to supply them to
principal contractors or organisations they are working for as part of their health and safety due diligence
procedures.
Health and Safety Construction Phase Plans
Under Regulation 3 of the Management Regulations, the principal contractor must develop a plan suitable for managing health and safety in the construction phase of a project, and must be completed before the client can allow work on site to proceed.
The construction phase plan is the foundation for good management and determines:
- Who does what
- Who is responsible for what
- The hazards and risks involved
- How the site works are going to be controlled
As well as assisting you with completing the plan, as its viewed as a live document our health and safety
consultants will ensure that it is reviewed at regular intervals, and amended to reflect changes in the scope of
work.
Site Inspections
Our health and safety consultants can devise a program of planned site inspections to be undertaken over the
duration of the project to help contractors ensure that site procedures and safety measures are being suitably
followed and the organisation remains legally compliant.
