Electrical Testing and Inspection for Health and Safety

Around 1000 electrical accidents at work are reported to the Health and Safety Executive every year and about 25 people die of their injuries.

Many deaths and injuries have arisen from:

  • The use of poorly maintained electrical equipment
  • Work around overhead power lines;
  • Contact with underground electrical cables during excavation work
  • General mains electricity supplies (230 volt)
  • The use of inappropriate electrical equipment in explosive areas such as car paint spraying booths.

Additional fires started by defective electrical installations and faulty electrical appliances cause many additional deaths and injuries.

Through an associate organisation, at Health and Safety Mentor we are able to provide our clients with the following electrical testing and inspection services:

Periodic Inspection and Test

The regulations recommend that commercial and industrial premises be periodically inspected and tested upon a change of ownership, change of use, if there are grounds to suspect a fault or defect, or in any case periodically between 3-5 years.

Maintenance and Repair

Electrical system can degrade through normal use overtime, through being accidental damaged, or from abuse. Electrical faults can occur at anytime of the day or night. Our associates are available for call out 24 hours a day, or for scheduled preventative maintenance of your premises electrical systems.

Fire Detection and Alarms

In order to suitably protect the safety of your employees, customers, premises and investment, where a fire detection and alarm system is needed it should be fitted by qualified electricians. Our associates can install, test and maintain fire alarm systems, so as to ensure that your organisation is protected by a suitable system that alerts you should a fire occur.

Portable Appliance Testing

Portable Appliance Testing or PAT testing as its commonly known is the periodic examination and test of portable electrical appliances (generally anything with a plug on it) that you would use at your premises or when off-site. The intervals for testing will vary dependant on the items that are being used, although many organisation will test their appliances on a annual basis.
