Health and Safety consultants and training in London and Cardiff
Organisations need to manage health and safety with the same degree of expertise and to the same standards as other core business activities, if they are effectively to control risks and prevent harm to people.
—Health and Safety Executive
Why invest in a Health and Safety consultant and staff safety training?
With busy workloads and rigid deadlines it can be extremely tempting to take short cuts in your health and safety responsibilities. Yet using a health and safety consultant isn’t an expensive or time consuming process and bringing employees up to speed with safety training will pay dividends in staff satisfaction and customer service levels.
Good health and safety management will protect your organisation from the costs of lost time incidents, litigation, fines, and the possibility of a tarnished reputation and loss of client contracts.
If your business employs five or more staff then you have a duty to document a company health and safety policy, carry out and record risk assessments of their activities, appoint one or more 'competent persons' to assist with meeting the legal requirements of safety law, and have a documented fire risk assessment for the premises.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) who, along with Local Authorities enforce health and safety law within the United Kingdom, have a 10-point list that shows the key actions required by law that apply to nearly every business, which our health and safety consultants will assist you in achieving:
1. Have you registered your business with the HSE or your local authority, depending on the sort of business you operate? If not our health and safety consultants will advise on the correct documentation that needs completing.
2. Have you taken out and displayed the certificate for Employers Liability Insurance? Should a member of your staff be injured or get ill because of their work they might try to claim compensation from you.
3. Have you as an employer appointed anyone to provide you with assistance in meeting you organisation’s duties and responsibilities with regards to health and safety? This would include appointing a health and safety consultant and investing in health and safety training.
4. Do you have a company health and safety policy that clearly defines your organisational health and safety arrangements, and who is responsible for what at all staffing levels? We can develop a policy specific to your companies needs.
5. Have you identified the hazards associated with the type of work you undertake and implemented suitable controls to provide a safe place of work for your employees and any other persons that may be affected, i.e. visitors, the public, etc?
You must undertake risk assessments of your company activities. Once completed, you must act on the findings of the risk assessment and put sensible controls in place to prevent accidents and ill health. You must then make sure they are followed, monitored and suitably reviewed.
Our health and safety consultants have devised a range of products and services to help you undertake your assessments.
6. Are there suitable welfare facilities e.g. toilets, a suitable place of rest during breaks and lunch, as well as an adequate supply of drinking water?
7. Do your employees receive suitable free instruction and training with regards to the work they undertake and the health and safety issues that may arise? HSM health and safety consultants have devised an array of health and safety training programs for a diverse range of organisations.
8. Do you regularly consult with your employees on the key health and safety issues of the organisation and provide them with a mechanism for raising any health and safety issues they may have?
9. Is there a current 'Health and Safety Law Poster' displayed in a prominent position for all staff to observe?
10. Do you report instances of work-related accidents, diseases and dangerous occurrences and do you have suitable policies and procedures for carrying out investigations and implementing suitable and sufficient controls as a result of the findings? Although we hope you never have one, our health and safety consultants are available for assisting with any accident investigations that may be required.
